IFRI Students win 1st and 2nd place at 2014 BCI Symposium

IFRI Students take top prizes at the 2014 FIU Biomedical and Comparative Immunology Symposium.

Ketaki Deshpande won 1st place for her poster titled “Breed designation for unknown equine case samples” that highlighted work currently conducted at IFRI’s Forensic DNA Profiling Facility (FDPF) to assist the police in identifying horse-meat and determine breed from illegal horse slaughters through DNA analysis.

Natalie Damaso won 2nd place for her poster titled “Novel Polymer for Bioseparations of Complex DNA Mixtures using Capillary Electrophoresis” that showcased a new polymer developed at IFRI’s Forensic DNA Profiling Facility (FDPF) to more efficiently separate DNA in complex mixtures.
